$1,000 in College Scholarships Awarded
Local Student Table Tennis Players Receive Awards
Pinellas County¾
The Sunrise Sports Foundation, parent organization of the Sunrise Table Tennis Club (STTC), awarded the Second Annual Myrtle Wilkins Table Tennis Educational Scholarship to two local table tennis players. Robert Ashmeade of Clearwater was awarded a $300.00 education scholarship and Marisol F. Delzo Infante of Clearwater was awarded a $700.00 education scholarship. The awards were presented to the young athletes by Sandy Hill, daughter of Myrtle Wilkins.
The
Scholarship was established by the family of Myrtle Wilkins, who founded the
STTC in 1989. She had a great enthusiasm for the sport, and achieved fame
as the National Senior Champion in her age class at the age of 75. She
died a few years later in 2000, but left a legacy of love for table
tennis. Her family honors her memory with contributions each year to the
Educational Scholarship and other youth programs of the STTC.
The Scholarship is awarded each year to the applicants which best meet the criteria of contributions to the STTC and the sport of table tennis. Applicants must also show some level of achievement in the sport along with dedication to continuing the pursuit of excellence both in table tennis and education. The use of the scholarships will be toward studies at a two- or four-year college.
More information about
the Scholarship and the other activities of the STTC are available on the STTC web site www.SunriseTableTennis.com, or by
contacting the club at (727) 669-0899.
