Sunrise Table Tennis Club Donates $300.00 to Family Scholarship Program

Clearwater¾

The Sunrise Table Tennis Club (STTC) made a $300.00 donation to the Family Scholarship Program of the Ross Norton Recreation Complex this morning.  The money will allow area youth who cannot afford to pay the normal program fees at Ross Norton to participate in their sports and recreation programs.

The check was presented by the Sunrise Sports Foundation, Inc., the parent organization of the STTC, to Jan Harrison, Ross Norton Recreation Specialist, and Earl Gloster, Recreation Superintendent of the City of Clearwater.  The Foundation is a Public Charity, whose goal is to promote low cost or free athletic competitions and educational clinics for adults and juveniles in order to promote fitness and personal excellence through planned athletic activities, educational, recreational, competitive and social events.  The main activity of the Foundation is the STTC, which provides the facilities, activities and opportunities in the sport of table tennis for the Foundation to achieve these goals.  The Foundation also provides free activities to all youth under the age of 18 and has a program of subsidized activities for seniors.  The Foundation is supported by business sponsorships and private donations.

Every Friday afternoon, table tennis training is provided at Ross Norton Recreation Complex, as well as every Monday afternoon at the Countryside Recreation Center, as a free service by the STTC as part of their ongoing Junior Athletes Development Program.  The after-school youth training is part of a year-round program of youth development in the sport of table tennis by the STTC.  The program emphasizes skills development, athleticism and sportsmanship.  The training provides young players with a sports-level ability that will last a lifetime.  Some local youth are even training for participation in the Olympics Table Tennis Team.  The STTC after-school youth program is followed by a summer camp program each year, which culminates in the Annual Summer Camp Table Tennis Championship.

The after-school youth training is available to any players ages 10-17.  Times are 4:00 to 6:00 pm each Monday at Countryside Recreation Center and 4:00 to 6:00 pm each Friday at Ross Norton Recreation Complex.  Other times are available by appointment.  The STTC also operates several table tennis clubs in Pinellas County, open to anyone with an interest in the sport.  The activities of the STTC include regular club play, tournaments, coaching, senior activities, junior programs and community outreach in the sport of table tennis.  Club play is available every day of the week for players of all ages and levels.  More information and the locations and hours of club play are available on the STTC web site www.SunriseTableTennis.com, or by contacting the club at (727) 669-0899.
