Sunburst Table Tennis Tournament Winners
Champion Players Awarded Top Prizes
Pinellas County¾
The newly renovated Long Center in Clearwater reverberated with the sound of tickety-tockety, tickety-tockety. The sound was both melodic and cacophonic. Orange balls were spinning and bouncing, stopped only by the barriers between the courts.
The Sunrise Table Tennis Club (STTC) ran the Sunburst Florida Open Tournament, a competition of the best players from Florida. Players also came from as far away as Staten Island, NY and Washington State to compete for the top prizes. Eighty players in all competed fiercely against their peers, equal in ability and focus, and the best were left standing.
Five different classes, according to their individual ratings, competed for the unique Sunburst trophies and cash prizes. First prize of $250.00 was won by Yasmely Vadillo, a Cuban player.
The STTC hosts several table tennis tournaments each
year. They are open to players of all
skill levels. The activities of the STTC include regular club play, tournaments,
coaching, senior activities and community outreach in the sport of table
tennis. The STTC also provides free
services in the sport of table tennis for Pinellas youth.
More
information and the locations and hours of club play are available on the STTC
web site www.SunriseTableTennis.com,
or by contacting the club at (727) 669-0899.
Club play is available every day of the week and is open to players of
